Serial numbers 99,999,900 and above — the highest numbers in any print run, the mirror image of the coveted low serials.
A High Serial note has a serial number with a numeric value of 99,999,900 or above — the last 100 numbers in any print run of 100,000,000 notes. These are the mirror image of Low Serial notes, representing the final notes printed in each series.
Why High Serials Matter
Just as Low Serial notes represent the beginning of a print run and are treasured for that significance, High Serial notes represent the end — the very last notes printed before a new series, new prefix letter, or new suffix begins. The note numbered 99999999 is the absolute last note in any given run and is considered the "crown jewel" of High Serial collecting.
The 99999999 Note
A serial of 99999999 is simultaneously a High Serial AND a Solid — all 9s. This makes it one of the most desirable fancy serial notes in existence: it is the single rarest Solid possible (since Solid-9 serials exist only once per district/prefix combination), and it represents the final note in a run. Examples in any denomination in any grade are extraordinarily valuable and rarely come to market.
Collector Interest
High Serial collecting is smaller than Low Serial collecting — there's a natural human preference for "the first" over "the last" — but a dedicated community of collectors specifically pursues high serials. Key thresholds:
- 99,999,900–99,999,999: Top 100 of a run (100 notes)
- 99,999,000–99,999,999: Top 1,000 of a run
- 99,990,000–99,999,999: Top 10,000 of a run
Value
High Serial notes in circulated condition typically carry a $5–$50 premium depending on how close to 99,999,999 the number is. Notes with serial 99999999 (a Solid-9) are worth thousands to tens of thousands of dollars in any grade.
